Pan American Extends Huarón’s Mine Life

Pan American Silver, owner of the Huarón polymetallic mine, located in Pasco, Peru, recently announced that it plans to extend the life of the mine with a $169.4 million investment.

A significant increase in mining and processing capacity is expected as a result of the investment. Pan American Silver plans to expand the Francoise concentrator’s current ore processing capacity of 3,200 metric tons per day (m/d) to 4,500 mt/d. Plans also include modifications and upgrades for the crushing and grinding circuits, and the filtration and thickening areas.

Of the $169.4 million, more than $118 million will be allocated to the construction phase, $45.2 million to the operational phase, and $6 million to the closure plan. A series of expansions and improvements are also proposed between 2026 and 2032, including: widening and deepening of underground workings, installation of ventilation shafts, and expansion of the tailings storage facility, among others.
