Zijin Increases Copper Production in Serbia


Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd. released unaudited interim results that show greatly increased levels of copper and gold production for H1 2024 in Serbia. The company reported more than 90,000 metric tons (mt) of copper and more than 102,000 oz of gold produced from Serbian Zijin Mining for H1 2024. Serbia Zijin Copper produced nearly 60,000 mt of copper during H1 2024. For H1 2023, the company reported 67,600 mt of copper and 89,100 oz of gold for Serbian Zijin Mining and nearly 41,000 mt of copper for Serbian Zijin Copper.

Zijin also said the combined production from Serbian Zijin Copper, which includes the Bor mine, and Serbian Zijin Mining, which includes the Cukaru Peki mine, is now 450,000 mt/y of copper. This is a significant increase compared to 418,000 mt in 2023.

Zijin previously announced capacity expansion at Cukaru Peki from 12,000 mt/d to 15,000 mt/d as part of an ongoing effort to de-bottleneck Serbian operation. Zijin is also reportedly developing the underlying Lower Zone porphyry copper-gold deposit at Cukaru Peki as a block cave, which could make it one of the more important block cave development projects inb the world.
