Rolls-Royce Opens Engine Plant

Rolls-Royce opened a $33 million mtu 2000 series engines assembly plant in Kluftern, near Friedrichshafen, Germany. Employing 110 people, the new plant features a 1.2-mWpeak photovoltaic system, e-charging columns, and intelligent building control.

Leadership at the supplier said the development shows its commitment to producing combustion engines and to the region. “We are convinced that, in conjunction with sustainable fuels and new technologies, the internal combustion engine will play a central role in the future,” said Dr. Jörg Stratmann, CEO, Rolls-Royce Power Systems. “Because it’s the fuel that matters, not the engine.”

The new plant will allow the supplier to dedicate the Rolls- Royce Plant 2 in Friedrichshafen to production of the Series 4000 engine.
