System Takes the Guesswork
Out of Core Orientation
Boart Longyear’s TruCore orientation system
is the fi rst product in its instrumentation
line and enables drillers to provide
more accurate data, as it addresses the
challenges that drillers and geologists
face while conducting core orientation—
the process that marks and determines
the precise position of core while in the
ground. According to the company, Tru-
Core has been rigorously tested to ensure
that the handheld device lets drillers
know when to activate it; this minimizes
the risk of missed orientations. With
its highly visible, fl ashing LEDs, TruCore
notifi es the user when there is direct
alignment, which reduces the total measurement
time and brings convenience
to bright daylight, low-light and underground
operations. With TruCore there
is no need to disassemble the barrel to
obtain an orientation mark. Additional
extensions are not needed when the integrated
TruCore housing is combined
with Boart Longyear’s outer tubes, reducing
the number of joints and high wear
on outer tube extension barrels. And with
TruCore, there is no need to disassemble
the core barrel to obtain an orientation
mark. As a result, crews benefi t by having
fewer manual handling actions needed to
perform a job. TruCore is offered in sizes
BQ to PQ. It is now available to rent in
Australia and will be rolled out to other
regions throughout 2016 and 2017.
