Tablet PC Built for Hard Use
Designed and built in Sweden, JLT Mobile Computers' JLT8404
rugged tablet PC has been upgraded to include a number of tech-
nological innovations, including a new low-voltage Intel Atom
processor. This energy-efficient chip runs at 1.6 GHz, providing
higher performance and enhanced 3-D graphic capabilities for
users. The upgrade also offers 2 gigabytes of RAM, and the PC is
available with a choice of Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows XP. The
JLT8404 also features a
high-performance Sierra
Wireless wide area net-
work (WAN) module. The
military standard (MIL
STD 810F) JLT8404,
specifically designed to
withstand harsh environ-
ments, retains past fea-
tures such as a sturdy
IP65 aircraft grade alu-
minum chassis, sunlight-
viewable 8.4-in. color SunView touch screen, Bluetooth and
3G/GPRS connectivity, and much im-
proved, highly accurate GPS performance.
According to the company, the tablet PC is
a fully integrated unit, with no moving or
external parts, is water and dust proof, sur-
vives drop tests to 1.2 m and withstands
temperatures ranging from -20°C to +50°C.
