Mine Equipment Electrical Insulation Monitor
Bender Inc. developed the A-Isometer
IR425 insulation monitor to increase safety
in the operation of ungrounded control
circuits in mining equipment. The IR425
is designed to monitor insulation resistance
of ungrounded AC/DC control circuits
from 0–300 volts. Operating on the
AMP (Adaptive Measuring Pulse) principle,
the A-Isometer IR425 initiates an
alarm when the control wiring of a mining
machine and its frame ground falls below
preset response values. Based on the
machine’s design, this alarm can be used
to either alert an operator or shut down
the faulty equipment. Additionally, the
IR425 automatically checks itself every
24 hours. Operators also can perform
external tests and resets by using remote
push buttons. According to the manufacturer,
the IR425 is also a valuable maintenance
tool because it provides continuous
status information on the health of
the electrical system via its liquid crystal
display. Major features include internal
and external test/reset buttons, self-monitoring
with automatic alarm message, two
adjustable response values, a preset function
with automatic assignment of basic
parameters, two separate alarm relays
with one changeover contact each and a
multifunctional liquid crystal display.
