Quicker, Stronger Mine Scaler

Atlas Copco’s Underground Rock Excavation Division has launched a new version of its Scaletec scaling rig, giving operators a stronger and faster scaling tool in mines and tunnels. The new Scaletec LC, based on the proven Scaletec MC, is available with standard 4-cylinder, EPA Tier 3-compliant low-emission diesel engine as well as a 6-cylinder version which enables faster tramming between sites. Other features have been improved such as an ergonomically designed, FOPS-approved operator’s cabin featuring the single seat concept that allows the operator to switch between scaling and tramming mode in one movement. In addition, the cabin’s lift-and-tilt function offers excellent visibility during scaling: a 375-mm vertical lift and a 15° tilt provide a superior overview of the working area from the same spot. The patented boom design also provides better visibility and this, combined with its mechanical parallel holding system, makes scaling faster, easier and more accurate, according to the company. Atlas Copco also has integrated the front hydraulic jacks into the shovel blade for improved stability.
