Thiess Wins Indonesian Coal Mine Project
A major Australian construction and mining
contractor, Thiess, has won a five year
A$1 billion ($696 million) contract to
develop and operate two coal mines in
Indonesia, according to Business in Asia
Today. The company’s subsidiary PT
Thiess Contractors Indonesia will provide
mine planning, overburden removal, coal
mining and loading and transportation of
coal to the Teguh Sinar Abadi (TSA) and
Firman Ketaun Perkasa (FKP) Coal Mines
in East Kalimantan. The initial production
target is 4 million metric tons (mt) of coal
and 40 million bank m3 of overburden
annually, to be achieved by the third year.
