The University of Nevada-Reno (UNR) Fire Science Academy hosted the first Barrick Gold Corp. Global Rescue Summit, which drew emergency response representatives from 25 of Barrick’s 27 operating mine sites worldwide for two days of training exercises and rescue drills designed specifically for the mine industry. The training included responding to hazardous materials spills and exposure, industrial firefighting drills, airport rescue and fire fighting classroom and live-fire training, and a firefighter challenge team-building exercise.

“The rescue summit provided Barrick an opportunity to deliver valuable and necessary training for its emergency response personnel, while also offering an opportunity for these responders to work together in team settings with colleagues from around the world,” said Randy Squires, associate director for central services at the Fire Science Academy. “The Academy faculty and staff were honored to be selected as hosts for this first-of-its-kind, unique event.”
