Liebherr Australia showed off its new
hydrostatic drive L 586 2plus2 wheel
loader. This loader is a new size for Liebherr
(20.43 mt, 250 kW) and is the flagship of
the recently released generation 6 2plus2
range. The 2plus2 system employs a variable
flow pump and two variable axial piston
motors that accelerate the loader continuously
from standstill to maximum speed
in either forward or reverse. Fuel savings of
up to 35% over conventional loaders are
claimed. The engine and pump are mounted
low at the rear of the loader, providing
significant rear weight for high tipping loads without the need for a counterweight.
This location also makes the
engine and pumps readily accessible from the ground.
