Heavy-Duty Heater
Ground Heaters’ Arctic Bear XHD indirectfired
heater provides heat output of
430,000 to 770,000 Btu/h, varying with
outdoor ambient air temperature (colder
outdoor air temperatures are countered by
higher Btu outputs to keep the outlet temperature
a thermostatically controlled constant
210°F). The unit’s maximum temperature
rise of 240°F is claimed to be the
highest in the industry. Airflow rates vary
with ambient air temperature and duct
type diameter and length. The 3-hp, backward
inclined, electric-powered centrifugal
blower typically operates in the 3,300
to 4,000 cfm range, at 4 in. water column
static pressure. The Arctic Bear XHD is
powered by a CSA certified, 10 KVA, 240
volt AC, 3-phase generator. The generator
is driven by a Kubota D1105 1,800 rpm
diesel engine. The D1105 engine block is
mated to a specially built 20-gallon oil
sump with two oil filters, allowing the generator
to run 3,000 hours between oil
changes. The Arctic Bear XHD has a 256-
gallon diesel fuel tank, resulting in a continuous
runtime rating of 40 to 64 hours.
A standard fluid-spill containment system
eliminates time and money potentially
spent cleaning up environmentally sensitive
work locations. Other standard features
on the Arctic Bear XHD include
crane lift eyes and forklift pockets for maximum
jobsite maneuverability. A roll-up
door allows for easy access to all operator
controls and provides superior performance
in windy conditions. The door also
locks for security purposes.
