Ore Pass Measurement System
The Agellis Group, based in Lund,
Sweden, has added the pt UM1101 ore
pass measurement system (“pt” signifies
Performance Technologies) to its range of
products. The system can measure ore levels
in an ore pass over lines of sight and in
adverse conditions. The continuously
measured data can be used to improve ore
handling in the pass, control stock levelsand provide blockage warnings, facilitating
improvements in productivity and safety
and reducing maintenance work. The
system comprises a sensor unit that samples
the ore using polarizing microwave
technologies, a junction box and a control
unit that continuously analyzes the ore
pass level, calculates the mean level and
displays a numeric value. The data can
also be stored in graphical format for historical
analysis. The sensor is typically
positioned on the roof of a horizontal drive
overlooking the ore in the pass. The system
is designed to be adaptable to all
types of underground mine design and
there are several display options, according
to Agellis. Specifications for the system
include: Electrical: switchable 90-
230VAC 50/60Hz max. 300 W; Microwave
Frequency: in narrow bands within
11-12 GHz; Microwave Power: <1
microW; Measuring Range: 0.5-300 m;
Mounting Specification: designed to withstand
all mining environments; Cooling:
air or nitrogen; Measurement Speed:
200 ms; Safety: complies with known
safety standards.
