Atlas Copco Upgrades Mine Truck
Following the introduction of the ST1030 Scooptram model (E&MJ,
November 2006, p. 87), Atlas Copco also has upgraded its Minetruck MT2000 to MT-
2010. The primary objectives were to improve serviceability and to reach higher
levels of availability and reliability. Many of the changes are similar to those
on the Scooptram ST1030, including fitting a new engine and a redesigned electrical
system.
The major improvement is the change of engine, from a Detroit Series 50
to the Cummins QSL 9. The Cummins engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 3 and European Stage
IIIA emissions regulations while delivering low fuel consumption and facilitating
service work. Atlas Copco notes that the QSL 9 has been delivered with the Scooptram
ST1030 for the past six months and reports from customers have been very positive.
Initial field testing was undertaken at the Koza mine in Turkey, running an MT2000
equipped with the QSL 9 engine for 2,500 hours. Yavuz Akkaya, manager of aftermarket
technical development and training at Atlas Copco Makinalari Imalat A.S. - CMT
Division in Turkey, said: “From a service point of view this field test
has been completed without any technical issues. The general opinion among the
operators was that the truck is very powerful. They also highlighted the high
serviceability and operator comfort.”
In addition to the Cummins engine,
the ST1030 and MT2010 share the same new instrument panel with built-in DCU (the
Data Collection Unit that translates information from various internal sources
to operator instrumentation). The new instrument panel features an integrated
warning system and an engine fault code display. The system also indicates when
it is time to change the air filters. On the MT2010, the PLC has been moved into
the cabin for better protection from the tough working environment. The transmission
cooler has been included in the radiator for better cooling capacity and easier
access.
